Oscar-winning Oliver Stone an American film director, screenwriter, producer and military veteran wrote his first novel whilst studying in Yale, his desire led him to drop out of school to pursue his passion; even though this particular novel was refused by publishers and did not get published until a good few years later because of his grammar, he did not give up on his true desire. He moved to Vietnam shortly after to teach English, and then enlisted in the army and fought in the war, a battle that earned him two Purple Hearts. He used his experiences in life to his advantage and used them as inspirations for his later work that often centered on war and led to his successes today
